Late Bus Run Cut from C-PP Budget
District Superintendent Judith Staples said they were "eliminating the late-bus run" to save the district $98,000.
Other cuts will be announced tonight during a school board meeting at the Lindley-Presho School at 7:30 p.m.
Those who had concerns about the late bus schedule might want to meander down to the school and hear what the school board has to say about that issue as well as other budget cuts.
Residents will vote on the 2005-06 budget May 17. A public hearing on the budget will be held May 10.
Hate to sound pushy (no I don't), but get involved with the issues surrounding our education system. It's important. China's going to kick our economic butts in the future if we can't compete on the global market. The global "playing field" is being leveled as I speak. Academically, the US ranks 16th out of 20 industralized nations in the percentage of students who graduate on time. That's not a good place to be. Get involved...

HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING THE OPTION OF ELIMINATING LATE BUSSES WHEN THE MAJORITY OF THE PRESENT STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE OF CORNING ITSELF NOW TRAVEL TO SCHOOL BY BUS. I SUPPOSE IT IS CHEAPER TO BUY UP HOUSES TO MAKE PARKING LOTS SO STUDENTS CAN DRIVE THEMSELVES TO SCHOOL. PERSONALLY, I WOULD RATHER HAVE MY CHILD ON A SCHOOL BUS THEN RISKING THEIR LIVES WITH A LOAD OF THEIR BUDDIES. I BELIEVE IN THE OLD DAYS, YOU ONLY DROVE IF YOU COULD PROVE YOU NEEDED THE AUTO TO GET TO AN AFTER SCHOOL JOB. I THOUGHT BUS TRANSPORTATION WAS PART OF WHY WE PAY SCHOOL TAXES.THEN--- WHY ARE SO MANY PARENTS FUNDING A CAR SO THEIR CHILD CAN ATTEND SCHOOL? WHAT ARE THE POLICIES AT BOCES, OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN REGARD TO STUDENT DRIVING?
Sally. Sorry i missed meeting but didnt get home till 8:30 from after school track meet.Would have liked to attend but sounds like any hopes of a later bus for kids practice has been completly eliminated.
Marc: I had hopes of reinstating the late bus run for kids in sports, but that project has been dashed. I'm sorry we lost the late bus run altogether, but the district had to cut costs.
I really appreciate your interest in local issues. I'm hoping to engage more people in local/national issues who may think politics aren't relevant to their lives. This couldn't be further from the truth. The minute we put both feet on the floor each morning, government affects our lives. Regular folks can cut through the BS like a hot knife through butter. Their voice is important in the decision making process, but many remain silent and don't speak out enough. That's what this "blog" is all about. A place for regular folks to speak their piece and keep up on the issues.
