Not to worry about stermer Sally . A snake may shed his skin but he still is a snake. A lot of people do not like somebody changing political parties to run for a office you are either a republican or democrat or etc. not what ever the way the wind blows. That is one of the reasons that make Paul Stermer a poor person to be town supervisor. He stands for nothing and can be swayed by anyone.

The democratic party in lindley must be in sad shape not to be able to come up with their own candidate and not have to endorse a republican!

This is the only contested position(Supervisor)on the ballot. This is the only place people have a choice. A sad state for the town to be in, so much apathy, no one wants to give of their time to make it a better community, save for a few. Good luck to all candidates, I believe they can all work together.

First I was contacted by the democrats over a month ago, not tues. night , I was asked to submit a letter and did so a week before the election.
Second I did not change to a democrat, I am still a republican , just supported by the democrat, I have not changed parties.
Third the reason I do not come to this "sight" is because of people making nasty comments and then hide behind "anonymous" , and you have no idea what I stand for BUT if you ask I would tell you.
In closing I called Saly Orr Thurs. morning and told all this to her, just thought ALL the truth should be told.
If you would like to talk to me my phone # is 523-8178 and if I'am not in and you leave a message I WILL call you back.
Thanks, Paul Stermer

Paul- I would like to say thank you to both you and Sally. To you for responding to comments on the blog and Sally for putting out appropriate comments. As you both know this blog is our hometown newspaper! Many read it even though some may choose not to make comments. This blog is a tool to reach people who you may not have reached with its absence. I think it is a great way for you both to put out your ideas for the town. There really are a lot of new folks in town that dont know Sally or you and our old option of setting down at moms kitchen with a cup of coffee and discussing town issues is no longer a possibility :( I miss that! But i guess that is an example of what many on here refer to as changing times. But most everyone has the internet now and we drink our coffee while setting in front of our monitors reading the town news on the blog.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were no parties, just people interested in helping a community grow economically so it can provide the services it has and be able to maintain them. I never vote for the party, only for the person I believe will do the best job for all. It serves no purpose to call names and be negative. I suggest you call Paul and see what he stands for. I do not believe he was swayed by anyone in this case.

The Democrats swayed him. I'd like to see a Democrat sway this Republican.

Let's COUNT OUR BLESSINGS that we are still able to have a choice of candidates-whether Republican - Democrat-Independent-Consevative, Green Party, Whig,Etc. Not all countries are so fortunate.

WAKE-UP- REPUBLICANS. With Paul Stermer running on the Democrat ticket as Supervisor-and no Republican opposing
Simcoe, and GrOss(Democrats) for the Councilman seat-the town will be mangaed by the Democrat party. Is this what you want????? Aren't there a couple of public spirited Republicans who would like to give these men some opposition in the November election -if only to keep things even. Is it too late to have a contest of some sort???????

Now is as good a time as any to make this announcement:

Jim Adams has stepped up to the plate and will run as a Republican on a "write in" vote this November for a Council position.

Let's see now, Adams is "stepping up to the plate". He wasn't interested enough to get a petition and circulate it for signatures like the other Republicans, so what kind of board member would he make? Sounds like one of the good ole boys to me and this town has had more than enough of them. The Democrats couldn't do any worse than some of the past Republicans. Remember it was a Republican who saddled the town with a landfill that cost some residents their livlihood and some even their life in the end. Yeah that was real good for the town. Isn't the present road superintendent a Republican? Yeah and the roads in town are a disgrace and it is not the fault of the men working under him. Me thinks before you throw stones you should look at just what Republicans have done in this town and all is not good. Nuff said.

I bet a Democrat wrote the last statement and one who is out for Johnson's hide-which is quite obvious if you have ever attended a meeting where town roads were an issue.
Let's give Jim credit for attempting to provide a choice. Part of the problem with the politics in this town is that the same people feel they have to control every inch of the town government-from Planning Board ,Town Board, Zoning Appeals, Town Offices-the list goes on.
Sitting back and accepting the fact that there is only one person running for an office is entirely wrong. I won't pull the lever for that person if this is the case.If a person decides to become an independant and conduct a write -in campaign - we should applaud him for having the guts to do so. Our form of government is based on choice and when there is no choice we have lost a part of the heritage our far sighted ancestors tried to provide for us with the 2,3,4 party system. It is called DEMOCRACY -A GOVERNMENT OF FOR AND BY THE PEOPLE. With only one candidate running for the office- it smacks of acceptance , laziness and and apathy on the part of the citizens and voters of a town.
The voters really should be concerned that a husband and wife currently sit on the Planning Board and the Town Board. Surely, there is another person in town who could present a fresh point of view about how town affairs could be run.
Like most voters, I do not attend a town board meeting unless the matter directly affects me. When I do, I am appalled at the lethargy(inactivity) on the part of the councilmen. Seldom is there any discussion of matters by them.Sometimes, it is even hard to get a response for a vote.Case in point, 2 women - not Town Board members -did their Math to prove the town could hire a highway worker without costing the town more money. (Who says women can't do Math) Why didn't our TOWN FATHERS DO THIR HOMEWORK and have their figures to present?
It is time for new blood and ideas in our town government.

To the last comment, there is an opening on the planning board so now is your chance to step up and put your money where your mouth is. Actions speak louder than words. The people you are hounding have stepped up and volunteered for more years than you have written comments. Yet they neither seek nor want accolades. They just get the job done.

So many people complaining about our choices. Yet when someone decides to run for a position, he's criticized. Lets not forget, our Superintendant has to fight for just about anything he wants to do for the town. Its not his fault when certain members are on their power trips. His hands are tied. And by the way, it seems its always the democrats who hold the rope. Just attend a few meetings when something is NOT concerning you directly and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks CJ for informing the public that the Planning Board needs fresh input.

To CJ- Every person who wants to play the game of politician should realize that there is usually more heat in the kitchen than accolades. If these people are on an ego trip looking for accolades and not the heat, then maybe they shouldn't be in the kitchen at all. . Generally, most people volunteer their time because they wish to give back to their friends and the community in which they reside-expecting little or no personal reward.

To the last comment, exactly what I said only in different words!

cj---you forgot to mention another reason people run for public office and that's maintaining control. I'm positive the three democrats running don't want to lose control of the present board dynamics which is to hog tie Dick Johnson every chance they get. What makes any of you think this will change if Sally is elected. She'll be out voted if these three remain on the board.

6:06 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I believe Sally only votes in a tie-All the more reason we need another write -in Republican to come forward and for the Republicans in town to get off their duffs and vote for the Republican candidates.

Dick receives a lot of criticism, but after many years in the job-he probably knows more about the whys and wherefores of the job than his critics. I honesty believe he tries to keep everyone happy-. Mother nature is probably his worst enemy.

Anonymous said.."Let's see now, Adams is "stepping up to the plate". He wasn't interested enough to get a petition and circulate it for signatures like the other Republicans, so what kind of board member would he make?"

Anonymous, could you please tell us - What is the difference between Mr. Adam's "stepping up to the plate" now and Mr. Stermer's changing party affiliations because he didn't win the Republican primary?
Are you saying it's completely unacceptable for a candidate to throw his hat into the ring and run as a "write in", but it is perfectly acceptable for a Republican who lost the primary to run as an opposing party's candidate? Last I looked any American who meets the qualifications can do just that.

Mr. Adams, or anyone else for that matter, has just as much right to "step up to the plate" as Paul Stermer has to run on the Democratic ticket if he wants to. Paul Stermer ran in the primary and was not chosen. (Apparently he didn't read the meaning in that vote and wants the job real bad.)

What on earth has the timing of Mr. Adam's decision to run got to do with the kind of board member he would be? To be fair and balanced we should ask what switching party affiliations says about Mr. Stermer's character.

Could you maybe share some of your insights with us all, so we understand what you are trying to say?

If Mr. Stermer does not know by now i hope he finds out soon what a great political blunder he has made taking the democratic endorsement. He has commited a sin against the republicans and i know it will cost him a lot of votes i know it has cost him at least two votes in my household and i am sure it will cost him alot more votes in Lindley from all parties! So long Mr. Stermer.

Perhaps Paul Stermer believes strongly enough in real democracy to not only circulat petitions from his own party but to also be endorsed by another party. This is a common practice all over the country and in fact in Lindley in the past. His opponet waxes all kinds of rhetoric but doesn't back it up with solid facts and fluctuates on issues and is not even aware of doing so. I wonder how many have actually called Mr. Stermer to ask him his position on issues concerning the town? I doubt very much that the two running on the democratic ticket have any desire for control or they could have run for supervisor also. Remember they only get one vote apiece and that is not a majority. Also one of these gentlemen has devoted much of his personal time to helping Dick Johnson get the new buildings going and is still overseeing the completion in a timely matter. He and Dick have managed to work well together so there goes the theme of being out to get Dick. It is a lot of rubbish being used as a smoke screen to discredit someone who has done much in a short period of time for the benefit of the town and its employees. Just ask one of the men what he is like to work with and they can tell you.

Regarding this comment from anonymous: "His opponet waxes all kinds of rhetoric but doesn't back it up with solid facts and fluctuates on issues and is not even aware of doing so."

What solid facts do you need on what issues and what fluctuations are you refering to? Be specific.

I believe that Sally if asked a certain question would answer in a honest way. you may not like her answer or agree with her but a least she will answer so that all can see her answer and have it as a part of history and be of public record here in this format. HEAR HEAR to her! It is Mr. stermer who will not take part in this format and let us know his opinion and platform. We know he reads this and is able to answer from previous comments. Looks like to us Sally has nothing to hide and is not afraid to let us know her opinion but Mr. stermer wants to hide and not come forward with a opinion or platform fot the future of Lindley makes you wonder what he has to hide or is trying to hide from us. It does not matter if he likes this comment format or not the fact is this comment area is here to stay like it or not. He better get use to it or it will be a long haul for him if he does get elected by some odd slim chance!VOTE FOR SALLY FOR A HONEST TOWN SUPERVISOR AND SOMEONE GOOD FOR THE FUTURE OF LINDLEY!!!

Hear...Hear...You got that right. I am not afraid of "ideas". You as a voter must know where I stand on issues. It's like shopping for a car...you need to know what's under the hood.

Much to the distress of several individuals in town, this blog plays a very important role not only for local government, but for the community as a whole. We have been in a "news blackout" for years. This blog informs Lindley citizens about their government and gives them a chance to speak out for or against issues. And I can't think of anything more important/vital to a democracy.

Those who do not participate in the comment or posting option on this blog, do so for their own reasons. No one is forcing them to participate.

Someone mentioned that the blog is not an appropriate venue for town officials to use as a forum to discuss town issues. The "public nature" of the blog and the use of the anonymous option disturbs them. But what most people don't realize is the fact that your daily newspapers quote "anonymous sources" everyday. A quote in The Leader often starts with "a high level government official who wishes not to be identified"...Journalist use anonymous sources all the time to publish information that otherwise would not come out. "Deep Throat" of the Watergate era being the most famous.

The idea that someone would print inaccurate information anonymously on the blog is very real. BUT...there is always another anonymous blogger who will come right behind the quoter of misinformation and immediately give a counter opinion or fact. The blog has a built in "checks and balance" protection. We've seen this checks and balance system in action since the blog started.

And I'd like to thank all of you who have participated in "threads" on this blog for daring to state your opinions both anonymously and with your own names. We have all benefited with the varying points of view.

Every blog has a "stable of comment contributors", individuals who consistently leave comments. These people are intregal to the success of any blog. I am extremely proud of my "stable of commenters/writers" because they make this blog informative and entertaining. Kudos to you all!!!

Maybe if someone actually had a question on where I stand on the issues instead of alot of BS.

Does anyone have a question where I stand? I would answer it, but its been over three weeks and I have not recieved any calls, as far as I can tell no one has asked any political questions here, they just talk about what terrible person I am. And that is why I don't come here very often.

I thought this was a contest for town Supervisor and who is most qualified, but some want to make it personal.

Maybe if someone has a question on the issues they could ask it here and we (Sally and I) would try to answer it.

Again if anyone has any political questions call me, leave a message and I WILL call you back. 523-8178 Paul Stermer
When you call you don't even have to leave your name just your number.

Ok We all ready know how sally feels about these issues but how do you feel about Taxes-junk properties-the amount of people working on the town crew-road conditions- rt15 replacement-harmony at the town hall-all sorts of things that effect the tax payers of lindley? I am sure there are a lot more people with questions for you but as you can see calling someone on the phone has become a thing of the past. How are you going to see Lindley Into the future we need a modern thinking person to lead us how will you do this?

6:26 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well everyone wants "low taxs", I want to keep taxs as low as possible but the more that people want from the Town the more the taxs will go up.

Junk is a hard subject, there is junk that we all agree is junk and should be cleaned up and then there is the stuff that people "collect" and is not offensive to them but to others it is and that is something that has to be worked on, but I also think that you should have some "Rights" if you own property. Also Dave and Susie are working very hard together and making progress.

The people working on the Town crew is the decision of the Road Supervisor, if he needs another person he needs to put it in his budget, and he would know better than I would if he needs four or more. The roads in Town need more gravel but it costs money (taxs) and Dick is trying to do the best he can and doing a great job.

RT 15 , I can't wait for it to get done, My family and I live and work here every day, I have been to most meeting ,written letters to our leaders. This section of road is a very dangerous and the sooner its done the better.

About harmony at the Town Hall why not ask the people at the Town Hall if they have any problems with me, I am fair with all.

If you ask a question and I don't answer it right away its because I don't get on-line everyday.

Yeah for Paul Stermer. Just because he doesn't toot his own horn and make himself out to be all knowing doesn't mean he doesn't have ideas and ways to work on them. What this town doesn't need is a know it all. Paul knows how to work within a budget as all farmers must. He is quiet and not outspoken but that doesn't mean he can't think on his feet and do the right thing. If we want harmony at the town hall then we best elect Paul or there will much dissent at the hall. SOme folks think that their idea is the best and that is their opinion but when they try to foist it on others as gospel then it is entering a danger zone. Good Luck Paul.
