Fireside Chat

Fireside Chat
Originally uploaded by Sally Ann.

1.) County Route 106 (Church Creek Road)- I’ve been working with the County in support of the 90 residents who live on County Route 106 (Church Creek Road) who are actively seeking temporary repairs this winter to reduce the adverse impact on their vehicles and safety issues that arose from a failed paving process last fall. I’ve asked several residents on Church Creek to keep me updated at all times on the condition of the road which they have been doing.

2.) Kuhl Road Detour and the Route 15 Improvement Project- I’ve been working with NYSDOT, NYS Senator George Winner, NYS Assemblyman Jim Bacalles and US Congressman Randy Kuhl in an effort to keep updated and affect pending funding/project issues related to the completion of Route 15 and doing my best to keep interested citizens knowledgeable about the funding process. (A January 18th meeting was held at the Town Hall with NYSDOT officials and representatives from George Winner and Randy Kuhl offices). A shift away from the construction of the Kuhl Road Detour was revealed during that meeting. NYSDOT is considering another detour if certain conditions are met.

3.) Updating Bookkeeping system—Kathy Biggio and I have been actively working to update the bookkeeping system in order to change the system from its current software program to another program designed to produce more detailed financial reports. When this is done the community as well as the councilmen will have a detailed account of department expenditures which will effectively enable the council to develop a yearly budget with more information at their fingertips.

4.) Working closely with Town Clerk—The Town Clerk and I have been reorganizing data and filing systems to accommodate the public when specific inquiries are made of the Town Supervisor and Town Clerk. It is our goal to return the Supervisor’s office and the Town Clerk’s office cooperative functionality as required by Town Law.

5.) Working closely with Councilmen on issues important to them—Currently researched “Bulk Mail Rates” to determine if cost effective for the Town in case the council chooses to send notices of various kinds to the public. I have discovered that some printing businesses in the Corning area have a Bulk Mail Rate service available to customers, which means the Town would not have to stand the cost of a Bulk Mail Permit.
6.) Fortuna—Am currently working with Head Assessor Guy Hill to research a taxing structure on the Fortuna natural gas infrastructure located on Ryers Creek. After an assessment procedure is determined, some monies although unknown at this time will be flowing into the Lindley tax base.

While I’ve been working on the issues listed above, my detractors, as usual, have been hyper-focused on the “minutia and politics of personal destruction” so favored by the previous leadership. It is a new day and sooner or later my detractors will catch on that I will stand firm against them when they play “Gotcha politics”. I prefer honest debate over issues of merit. Ultimately, the citizens of Lindley will determine which way they want their local government to work: Either working on issues that really matter to them or a continued wallowing in the mud of “minutia and politics of personal destruction”. And if my detractors want to keep track of how much money my council saves or brings to the Town, let’s start now. I think the letter (click on the headline "Fireside Chat" to read the letter) that I and others received speaks volumes. The floor is yours.

Is this letter a joke? Are you that petty that you are upset over a stamp, or are you just looking for something else to complain about? You are REALLY reaching to find fault now! Give it up! As for locks being changed, I wouldn't know the "rules" or "laws" on that , but simple common sense would tell me that when you change staffing ANYWHERE, you change the locks. That just makes good practice on any businesses part. If the locks were changed, and this "fireside chatter" seems so have this knowledge, being upset enough to complain about the locks only implies to me that this is someone who would like to have "still" been able to get into the building to perhaps cause trouble, and not as you stated "concerned about wasting taxpayers money". Get on with your life, quit trying to stir up trouble where there is none. AND...you are NOT such an anonymous blogger, you were seen dropping off this letter, you are a very semple minded person!

For the record, I used the stamps that were available.

The previous bookkeeper had purchased 3 rolls of 37 cent stamps but no 2 cent stamps that could be used with them when the postage rate changed on 1/1/06 and there were several year end reports that had to go out right after Sally took office.

As we needed to submit a voucher to the Board for approval prior to purchasing the 2 cent stamps to use with the 37 cent ones, and the report needed to go out before the next Board meeting, we worked with what we had.

Hopefully this addresses the issue raised by "Lindley Citizen". If anyone feels that a wrongful act has been committed, please speak your mind and I will be more than happy to give the Town Supervisor the 35 cents to put back into the Town coffers.

FYI Kathy - The postage rate did not change until 1/08/2006

Sorry for not realizing that the rate would change on a day other than the first of the month. I don't remember what day we mailed those out,I can check if you would like, but perhaps the Lindley Citizen who was rifling through the outgoing official mail can answer that question.

If you really want to address waste in government, one could ask why the previous administration would spend $111.00 on postage they didn't need (the cost of 3 rolls of37 cent stamps), when they had nearly a full roll left at year end.

Those funds could have been returned to the general fund for use this year, if they were unneeded.

First in the "Fireside Chat" there's alot of "I" , there is no "I" in Team.

And then in the "comments", now who is being petty, if you make a mistake and someone calls you on it you blame Harold and Penny.

"And then in the "comments", now who is being petty, if you make a mistake and someone calls you on it you blame Harold and Penny."

Nowhere in my explanation did I try to blame my actions on a mistake- I explained why the stamps were used.

Nowhere in my explanation did I "blame" anyone. I simply explained the facts.

This issue should go a long way in showing the townspeople the type of petty, obstructionist nonsense that some will resort to, for their own personal interests, with no regard for the best interests for the Town.

Now you know why there are terms of office and term limitations. There are those who think the place won't run without them and don't know how to exit gracefully.
Besides the wage issue, why does industry discard the old worker and bring in new blood.
Wise up people-it was time for a change. The lady has only been there less than a month-.Already there have been two meetings for the public, and she is attempting to inform those who can read what is transpiring. Let's quit the nit-pickin and get on with business-and no sniveling allowed.

I posted once before... since I don't live in NY, I try to keep my mouth shut over most things... but this has got to be one of the most ridiculous items I've ever seen. If it wasn't so nauseating, I would be laughing hysterically.

Some of you belly-achers need to find a life... and quit messing around in everyone else's trying to stir the pot. Why don't you spend all your rabble-rousing energy on a good cause. ACTUALLY TRY TO HELP YOUR CITY INSTEAD OF TEARING IT DOWN.

For those of you who are too ignorant to realize, the internet is not called the "world wide web" for nothing. This blog is seen by countless people the world over. I personally have sent the link to this site to my friends in and out of this country. Do you have any idea how stupid some of you sound? How juvenile you look, how petty?

You cranky, irritated, irresponsible people of Lindley are prime examples of everything dispicable in politics. Some of you look like ignorant, simple-minded, hate mongers. I sure hope Sally has some kind of police protection. You sound like some white people of the south during the civil rights movement, ready to burn a cross in her yard, and hang her from the nearest tree.

Why? Because she used 2 37 cent stamps. Well, call in the calvary folks, it's obvious Sally is just out to screw the people of Lindley.

I am so thankful that I don't live in, near, or around Lindley. Everyone complains about the big cities, the high crime rate, the racial wars, the war against Christians... I would take all that and a few roadside bombs over the attitude that is so prevalent in Lindley. It seems a majority of the community is content with the practice of "eating it's own." I feel very sad for you all.

The saddest part is that many of you will hike your indignent selves back up on your holier-than-thou horse, and act as if you are the victims. Cry in a puddle of self-pity about how you've been so wronged by Sally and her staff. Well, you are victims, victim to your own hate, greed, petty attitude, and ignorance.

To the last Poster-you are very wrong about most of the people in Lindley. They are God fearing-hard working salt of the earth residents. Their one fault is that most do not participate in politics here is as you can see-a few bad apples are spoiling the barrel and it has been that way since they were old enough to participate in politics.
As usual, they are the ones in the right and the rest of the town is wrong. Until they grow up,mature or the citizens get fed up with their nonesense-it will remain this way. Thankfully, the complainers are in the minority. Their behavior has been discussed and analyzed many times, but the concensus of opinion seems to be that unless they are running the show-no-one else's efforts are worth bothering with.
Hopefully your comments will wake the townspeople up to the way we appear to outsiders. The blog was meant to inform people not to become a place to spew venom. Thanks for bringing us to task. The new supervisor has her job cut out for her,and the townspeople need to let her know they are behind her and fed up with this petty, nasty behavior.
Please know that sometimes we all need to be pulled up by our boot straps and become responsible for our actions. We needed your comments.

Only one comment to the above response. It ISN'T the whole board, it's a party of ONE with an old croney in his ear who CHOSE not to run again for office. Good choice, he'd have lost! And I agree....Sally you seem to be doing fine by me.

ENOUGH -ENOUGH ALREADY- Let's assume that these are all grown-ups and not some 9 and 10 year olds doing the name calling.
This seems to be betwen 2,3, 4 individuals who have agreed to disagree. THE REST OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD NOT BE ADDING TO THE TURMOIL.
LET THE KIDS FIGHT IT OUT. THERE ARE PROCEDURES AND MEANS FOR DOING THIS. IF IT MEANS SETTING UP AN EXECUTIVE SESSION OF THE TOWN BOARD OR WHAT-EVER-THEN DO IT (call in the town lawyer if need be) GET THE MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK.AIR YOUR GRIEVANCE AND BE DONE WITH IT. IF YOU'D RATHER POUT BECAUSE THINGS DON'T GO YOUR WAY-THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM-NOT THE REST OF THE PUBLIC'S AFFAIR.

TO THE PUBLIC-There are better things in life to do than be caught up in a political feud between a few individuals.
Let the involved parties sort it out and hope the town does not become torn apart by the wrangling of a few unhappy souls.
TO THE UNHAPPY INDIVIDUALS
If life deals you a lemon -make lemonade.
Thoroughly disgusted with the whole AFFAIR.

Sally, I enjoy your blog, but lately it seems that a couple of people are very hateful, towards other co-workers within your Town. Do you have a Board of Ethics? You should really check into it. I feel real bad that a couple of people can't work together for the GOOD of your TOWN!! You know that old saying people who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones. Good Luck with this giant problem! Please don't give up!!Your doing a great job!

sally, do you think you could honestly debate over the condition of the town roads? do you truely believe that they are in great shape or do you think there is room for improvements?

7:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hmm -Could anyone debate over the condition of state roads or county roads or any other townships roads?I think roads are a problem anywhere in this state!Dirt roads are heaving now with the weather we have been having ,But anyone who has lived on these roads for any lenghth of time knows that this is nothing new. Mother nature can not be controlled no matter how much we would like to be able to.And anyone who lives on a town dirt road anywhere knows that as soon as the weather permits the Highway dept. will be making repairs to problem areas.Sometimes a small problem is let ride for a time to prevent a much larger problem from loaded trucks trying to repair these small problems but again this is nothing new to anyone who lives on these dirt roads. So I think whats the fuss about there are no new problems that dont arise on any town dirt roads with this kind of flucuations in the weather that we dont have every year at this time.

From a dirt road resident- Now I have been over neighboring town roads to the east and the west-all my life. Lindley's roads are no worse than some I have been on. Try Hornby.
Don't believe me-go up Watson Creek Road or the road out of Nelson,Pa. to get to Orr Hill-even in the middle of the summer (don't know the name of the road.) It was like a creek bed in the middle of the summer.Thought for sure the bottom would fall out of my car or a stone would come through the floor. Took a trip to Elmira the other day on a blacktop, but saw hazard cones out on Caton dirt roads and Tannery creek road-(county maintenance) wasn't so great either. Ever try going down some of the Caton roads into Pa?? -. I could go on, but Marc is right Mother Nature is not kind to highway workers..
I don't know what your gripe is, but it sounds to me as if you just have to keep trying to keep something going.
If you live on a dirt road, why do you choose to live there? If you don't then it is none of your business what we who do are willing to accept for where we reside.
If you are advocating blacktop roads for all the town roads, how much more are you willing to cough up for taxes? I think the pot holes grow on black top, too.
The speed on dirt roads is bad enough, but I can just visualize what it would be if all the town roads became hard top.
People used to have respect for their neighbors and drive a decent speed by their house-now it's get there sooner than sooner.
Am curious to hear your explanations and to hear why you are asking Sally to debate the issue.
Exactly what is your problem????

Ok PJ
What are your ides. Easy to sit in front of a computer and find fault. Do you know all the restictions put on the highway personnel-including the union rules??
Before you ctiticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them ,you're a mile away and have their shoes.

Speaking of county roads, maybe if the county didn't pay extra every time the plow went down the county roads would be in better shape. All you have to do is look at all the blacktop that has been plowed up by county trucks. The county is the one who is tearing up their roads and then the taxpayers have to foot the bills for repairs.

PJ Why are your comments directed to Sally and not Mr. Johnson? I believe he is the elected official in charge of the roads and has been doing the job for many years. Seems you should be talking to him-not the town supervisor. I bet he could tell you a lot of things you never realized until you hear his side of the story.
He lives on a dirt road ,too I believe. Sally lives on Rt. 15 and kuhl road-no comparison
