Trying to hold the river at bay
This is a shot of the earthen dam landowners of the 100 acre field below my house erected across the river where highwater eroded a sizable corner of their field. The dam is at its greatest height near the deepest cut of land to prevent rushing water from eroding even more soil away this winter and spring. It looks like they tapered the dam on the northern end for highwater to flow taking pressure off the upper part of the dam where the most erosion occured. Landowners seeded the earthen dam to help keep the soil from washing away. I hope they bring in rip/rap to secure the dam even more. The erosion from the river has been an ongoing problem for the landowners for the last four years.
